چکیده

We address the issue of eeciently assigning wavelengths to communication requests in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks. We consider directed tree and tree of rings topologies. These are topologies of concrete practical relevance for which undirected underlying graph models have been studied by Raghavan and Upfal 6]. Directed models were rst studied by Mihail et al 4]. For trees, we give a polynomial time routing algorithm that, for requests of maximum load L per directed ber link, uses at most 7=4L wavelengths. This improves the bound of Mihail et al.. As a corollary we also give an algorithm for trees of rings that uses 7=2L wavelengths.

QoS Multicast Routing and Wavelength Assignment in IP/DWDM Optical Internet by Bio-inspired Algorithms

In this paper, two bio-inspired Quality of Service (QoS) multicast algorithms are proposed in IP over dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical Internet. Given a QoS multicast request and the delay interval required by the application, both algorithms are able to find a flexible QoS-based cost suboptimal routing tree. They first construct the multicast trees based on ant colony opti...

Supporting IP Dense Mode Multicast Routing Protocols in WDM All-Optical Networks

Recent developments in all-optical networking and wavelength division multiplexing technologies allow for the support of optical multicasting, a missing feature towards the optical Internet. In this paper we propose a protocol to construct source-rooted WDM multicast trees. The protocol works under dense mode multicast routing IP protocols and supports network nodes with different degrees of li...

Approximation Results for Wavelength Routing in Directed Trees

The paper deals with wavelength routing in WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) optical networks. Wavelengths must be assigned to connection requests which are represented as directed paths, and it is required that paths receive different wavelengths if they share a directed link. The goal is to minimize the number of wavelengths used. Mihail et al. [10] conjectured that there is a solution f...

Optimization of wavelength assignment for QoS multicast in WDM networks

This paper discusses quality-of-service (QoS) multicast in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks. Given a set of QoS multicast requests, we are to find a set of cost suboptimal QoS routing trees and assign wavelengths to them. The objective is to minimize the number of wavelengths in the system. This is a challenging issue. It involves not only optimal QoS multicast routing, but also ...
